Tyto Athene is hiring a Senior Systems Engineer to support a federal customer in Washington, DC. This role is Linux-focused, supporting Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems operating within a primarily Windows-based enterprise environment. Engineers in this role will be hands-on with enterprise storage solutions, including NFS and SAN, while supporting critical infrastructure systems across the environment. This is a highly collaborative role with the opportunity to work across network, storage, virtualization, and security domains, making it ideal for engineers who thrive in complex, mission-critical environments.

Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and support Linux (RHEL) systems integrated within a Windows enterprise environment
• Install, configure, and manage RHEL systems across development, test, and production environments
• Administer and maintain Linux systems that interoperate with Windows infrastructure, including Active Directory, DNS, and enterprise services
• Perform day-to-day operations, maintenance, patching, and troubleshooting of Linux systems in a 24/7 mission-critical environment
• Deploy and manage patching solutions (e.g., Red Hat Satellite) for Linux systems
• Support and manage networked storage solutions, including:
  • NFS (Network File Systems)
  • SAN (Storage Area Networks)
  • NetApp or similar enterprise storage platforms
• Support infrastructure across servers, storage, network, backup, security, and VDI environments
• Automate system administration tasks using scripting (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerShell)
• Perform capacity planning, performance tuning, and system optimization
• Create and maintain technical documentation, including SOPs, architecture diagrams, and system designs

Required: 

• 8 years of general experience OR 6 years of relevant IT experience with at least 4 years in systems administration/operations
• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience); Master’s may substitute for additional experience
• Strong experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) in a mixed Linux/Windows environment
• Experience integrating Linux systems with Windows-based services, such as:
  • Active Directory (authentication/SSO)
  • DNS/DHCP
• Experience with installation, configuration, and lifecycle management of Linux systems
• Experience supporting 24/7 mission-critical data center infrastructure
• Experience with NFS, SAN, and enterprise storage systems (NetApp preferred)
• Experience operating within VMware virtual environments (vSphere/vCenter)
• Working knowledge of:
  • Linux Administration (RHEL)
  • TCP/IP networking
  • Microsoft Server (2012–2025)
  • Active Directory & Group Policy

Desired: 

• Experience with Red Hat Satellite or similar Linux patching/management tools
• Scripting/automation experience (Bash, Python, PowerShell)
• Experience supporting backup, security, and VDI environments
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure)
• Experience in DevOps or automation-driven environments

Compensation:

• Compensation is unique to each candidate and relative to the skills and experience they bring to the position. The salary range for this position is typically between 150K-160K. This does not guarantee a specific salary as compensation is based upon multiple factors such as education, experience, certifications, and other requirements, and may fall outside of the above-stated range.
