Tyto Athene is hiring a Data Scientist Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join a newly awarded Cybersecurity and IT Risk Management contract supporting a federal customer. This role is critical to maturing the client’s operational capabilities. You will work within an experienced team dedicated to defending federal infrastructure, transforming large datasets into actionable insights to detect and respond to threats quickly and effectively.
Responsibilities:
Provide technical and management leadership on major tasks or technology assignments.
Collaborate with clients, data stewards, project/program managers, and IT teams to turn data into critical insights for organizational decision-making.
Ensure data quality, consistency, and reliability.
Apply creative and innovative data mining approaches to uncover new patterns and insights from large datasets.
Support cybersecurity initiatives using data analytics, machine learning, and statistical modeling to identify and mitigate threats.
Provide technical support for Continuous Diagnostics & Mitigation (CDM) / Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) phases, including dashboards and visualizations, while communicating complex security concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Validate findings using experimental and iterative approaches and present results clearly to business counterparts.
Lead ongoing research to recommend and implement new concepts in operational analytics and organizational performance management.
Identify and evaluate data sources to support the SOC data analytics function and implement new data collection methods.
Automate data collection and aggregation from sources such as SIEM tools, case management systems, and internal databases.
Conduct root-cause analysis of operational issues and provide actionable recommendations.
Provide training on interactive, self-service dashboards to senior executives.
Develop documentation for analytics work products, data models, and testing/distribution processes.
Collaborate within a multi-disciplinary, fast-paced, solutions-oriented team focused on client deliverables.
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
Experience working in a Lean-Agile environment.
Hands-on experience with MS PowerBI.
Proficiency in Python programming and open-source libraries.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends and insights.
Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to connect business outcomes with operational and technological considerations.
Highly organized with strategic and tactical critical thinking.
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with experience briefing senior leadership.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, MS Project).
Desired:
Experience with Linux, IP networks, APIs, SQL/NoSQL databases, and query tools.
Experience managing large transformational, data-driven projects in cybersecurity.
Familiarity with SOC metrics and security operations.
Experience with Splunk, Spark, Hadoop, or real-time algorithm development.
Six Sigma certification and/or operational excellence experience.
Familiarity with a range of data analysis techniques: linear regression, random forest, clustering, NLP, supervised/unsupervised learning, graph algorithms, etc.
Clearance: Active Top Secret clearance required
Location: Hybrid-remote in Washington, DC, with expected 2-3 days on-site per week
