Tyto Athene is searching for a Network Engineer with strong expertise in operations and architectural design for a global enterprise composed of firewalls, routers, and switches to join our Defense Enclave Services (DES) team at Ft. Meade, MD.  This person will be working in support of a large and complex IT operations that run a 24x7x365 operational posture. Included in the operational aspect of the existing enterprise, the successful candidate may be needed in the discovery, design, and migration effort geared toward providing a Single Service Provider model for the Department of Defense as new Agencies are identified. This aspect of the role will support the discovery analysis and design activities required to migrate common IT services from multiple large-scale DoD agencies into DoDNet. A successful candidate will be technically well-rounded, able to mentor less experienced engineers, and able to produce quality work with extreme attention to details.

Responsibilities:

• Works the M-F day shift, monitoring and managing all networking related components in an organization with global presence.
• Surveys current and future locations to support agency network infrastructure.
• Inventory and validation of agency current and future network devices and topologies.
• Designs and installs architecture to include the software, hardware, firmware, and communications to support the network requirements as well as provide for present and future cross-functional requirements and interfaces.
• Configures, installs, tests, validates, and troubleshoots network infrastructure devices.
• Ensures Network systems are compatible and in compliance with the standards for open systems architectures, the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) and International Standards Organization (ISO) reference models and profiles of standards - such as Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Open Systems Environment (OSE) reference model - as they apply to the implementation and specification of Information Management (IM) solution of the network layers, across the application program interface (API) and the external environment/software application.
• Ensures that the network/transport layers of the common operating environment are compliant with policies, processes, and procedures.
• Evaluates analytically and systematically problems of workflows and network usage to ensure adequate overall capacity and throughput for all connected users, wired and wireless.
• Provide support team members with the tools, knowledge, and support documentation required to support enterprise architecture.
• May have to support periodic on-call/after-hours efforts.
• Understanding of change control processes and can speak clearly to non-technical stakeholders to justify changes proposed during Change Advisory Board (CAB).
• Other duties as assigned by management.

Required:

• 7+ years of relevant experience OR a bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field.
• Experience in network design, deployment, and operation desired.
• CCNA/CCNP, JNCIA, PCNSE or other related certifications.
• Security+ CE (or appropriate DoDM 8570 Baseline Certification).
• IAT Level II certification is required before start.
• Knowledge and/or experience with network security practices.
• Designing and deploying OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, MPLS, MBGP, VXLAN, VLAN, Virtual Chassis, HSRP, LACP, 802.1x, WLAN, SSL-VPN, and Spanning Tree.
• Ability to configure, install, test and validate, and troubleshoot enterprise-wide network infrastructure devices.
• Knowledge of network troubleshooting techniques and tools (e.g., network packet capture and analysis, network analyzers, port scanning, and monitoring).
• Ability to review and develop network diagrams.
• Ability to assess, document and provide recommended courses of action (CoA) to mitigate risk.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and attention to of risks detail.
• Ability to organize and facilitate planning and demonstrations of projects and report / brief to various levels of management.

Compensation:

• Compensation is unique to each candidate and relative to the skills and experience they bring to the position. The salary range for this position is typically between $115,000-125,000. This does not guarantee a specific salary as compensation is based upon multiple factors such as education, experience, certifications, and other requirements, and may fall outside of the above-stated range.
