Description

Tyto Athene is searching for a Senior Technical Writer to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida. Positions are located both CONUS/OCONUS at the SOUTHCOM HQ in Doral, FL, and at the TSOC and other locations abroad (GTMO, Honduras, Colombia etc.).

 

The Senior Technical Writer leads the writing and editing of technical documents such as procedure manuals, user guides, and operational specifications, translating complex technical details for a wide range of audiences. This role collaborates closely with engineers, analysts, and leadership to transform complex technical information into clear, user-friendly documentation for diverse audiences.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Acquires deep subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing production methods, and reviewing technical documents such as blueprints and engineering illustrations
  • Directs the preparation of illustrative materials, selecting appropriate drawings, diagrams, and charts to accompany the content
  • Conducts comprehensive quality reviews of all materials. Transforms complex data into clear, user-friendly text for various publications, including technical journals, user manuals, government proposals, and websites
  • Collects information through research, interviews, and technical reports to develop in-depth publications
  • Oversees the organization and maintenance of records, files, and electronic media, and manages archives for all published materials
  • Prepares and presents materials for technical seminars and business forums, while recommending layouts, graphics, and illustrations to clarify publication goals
  • Submits monthly reports on deliverable timeliness and coordinates the transfer of files to the appropriate personnel
  • Manages and updates the Interface Control Document (ICD), documenting all interface information between subsystems or systems and ensuring it reflects changes post-transition
  • Prepares and reviews training materials, user guides, and presentations for training sessions, providing Quality Assurance for all materials before use

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, Information Technology or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in technical writing within a DoD, intelligence, or government contracting environment
  • Experience writing within RMF/DIACAP, software development lifecycle (SDLC), or cybersecurity frameworks
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and documentation tools such as Visio
  • Strong attention to detail and understanding of controlled vocabulary and structured authoring

Desired:

  • Master’s degree in related field
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum environments
  • Experience with XML or content management systems
  • CompTIA Security+ or ITIL v4 Foundations

Clearance:

  • Secret clearance required with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI

Certification:

  • DoD 8570 Baseline & CE certifications are required for all positions and may vary slightly depending on the skillset required to perform the role
